Architecture Design Research Guild

The idea of the ‘Guild’ came first. It was the convergence of distinct ways of thinking towards a common future. The studio comprises of four partners and a team of consultants, contractors and craftsmen around which projects are built. We bring to the drawing board, our individual interests and work experience in the fields of architecture, site planning, interior design, conservation, product and graphic design to craft a brief unique to the challenges that the work brings with it. The guild is a collective environment for learning from our experiences and those of our collaborators from various fields of work. It facilitates an amalgamation of expertise required to execute projects. We firmly believe that within architecture lies a potential to create a better future for everyone. Our belief is reinforced with strong roots in the academic sphere of architectural practice. We take on the roles of a teacher, design guide, business administrator, project leader and team members as needed. We are trained as research professionals with works in history, questions related to cities and the peripheries, environment, art practices, poetry and writing on architecture. Our strength lies in our ability to traverse between these roles sometimes in the span of a day and address the needs of the school, the studio and the site.

In the recent years, the team has engaged with communities, social organisations, artist collectives, corporate office set-ups, industry and families in different parts of the country. Our work has taken us to different parts of the country and exposed us to different cultural contexts. We have worked with a farmer’s family towards the economic development of a small village and designed penthouses for business families. A recent project engaged us with a Church community who actively participated in the remodelling of their building through organised meetings and interactions. Our sites span the west coast of country with Ahmedabad in the north, Nashik, Pune, Carmona in Goa and Thiruvalla in Kerala, in the south. We have worked on many projects in and around the Mumbai Metropolitan Region.

Our ‘Guild’ is excited at the opportunity of shaping many futures, those that are inclusive, responsible, sensitive, sustainable and most of all joyous and full of life! We look forward to engaging with you, your family, organisation and collective, we are excited to see how we can shape your future.
